Russia confirms sale of S-300 conveyor belt to Iran

Russia on Tuesday confirmed conveyor belt decision to offer S-300 air defence missile systems to Iran, but said it could not yet announce to start a date.

"The decision on delivering S-300 to Iran continues to be taken however the realisation of the project requires some time," Yevgeny Lukyanov, deputy head of Russia's security council, was quoted by Russian agencies as saying.

"As I understand, any time of delivery have not come yet," he explained.

Talks around the controversial deal, that's been frozen since 2010, finished Monday with Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian pronouncing them a "success".

Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Tuesday the agreement are still being finalised.

President Vladimir Putin last month lifted a ban on supplying Iran with the sophisticated systems, following landmark framework deal Tehran struck using the West over its nuclear programme.

He explained several days later that Iran is "demonstrating high flexibility and clearly wishes to realize a compromise with this nuclear programme," which explains why Moscow lifted its ban.

Your choice sparked conveyor belt from Israel and concern from Washington, since it came ahead of the lifting of the sanctions because of the UN Security Council, which originally caused Moscow to freeze the deal.

Now Russia is arguing the missile method is exclusively defensive and does not even come under the sanctions.

Iran's Amir-Abdollahian predicted which the delivery would follow through "on the soonest opportunity possible".

Iran's deputy oil conveyor belt Amirhossein Zamani-Nia said Monday he wished for a total lifting of international sanctions later this coming year if world powers resolve all remaining contentious issues and strike the nuclear deal by its June 30 deadline.
